What is Xeomin?
Xeomin fillers are a dermal filler for the treatment of adults with moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. The product in Xeomin is called incobotulinumtoxinA which is made from the bacteria that causes botulism. Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity.
Xeomin filler is similar to other drugs in the filler category including Botox and Dysport, which are all approved for the treatment of facial wrinkles.
What is the difference between Botox and Xeomin?
Botox is a brand name in itself, it is continuously heard by many for the ability to improve your aging face, however Xeomin is another incredible option that gives Botox a run for its money.
The similarities of Xeomin and Botox are minimal, but both show effectiveness when it comes to eliminating the expression lines and wrinkles in aging skin due to repetitive muscle contractions involved in everyday facial movement. Both Botox and Xeomin address lines and wrinkles in the same manner as well, by targeting the facial muscles.
The results from Xeomin and Botox are both temporary, you will need periodic maintenance (usually every 3-6 months) to maintain the results from the treatment.
Xeomin is also often being called “naked Botox” due to the purity of the product, however just like Botox, when injected, it attaches to the same receptor in the same muscle to help soften wrinkles. They offer the same mechanism of the action, but they are still different and not interchangeable.
Another difference that Xeomin has is the onset of its results. While the results of both treatments last for about the same duration of 3 to 6 months, Xeomin requires up to 4 days to fully show the results.
What are the benefits of Xeomin?
Xeomin offers a variety of benefits for not being a big brand name yet, but has the ability to help improve the aging skin through cosmetic injections.
A few benefits that Xeomin offers are:
- Smooths the appearance of wrinkles in between the eyebrows, around the eyes, in the forehead or around the mouth.
- Helps to block the signal from the nerve to muscles, causing the muscle to relax and prevent further wrinkling
- Short treatment time during your appointment, fast recovery time after the appointment, and noticeable results almost immediately
- Patients are less likely to have an allergic reaction due to the absence of added fillers
What is the recovery time for Xeomin?
During your treatment, the injection may take as short as 10 minutes to complete the process. Our providers will numb the area beforehand to make sure you are comfortable and relaxed. You may feel a slight pinch from the needle itself, however you shouldn’t feel a lot of pain. The injections will vary depending on the size of the area being treated.
Once the treatment has been completed, we ask you to keep your hands away from your face for a minimum of three hours, avoid lying down if possible and stay away from any vigorous activity for four to six hours afterward to keep the product where it is supposed to go.
With Xeomin, the recovery time is short, but patients usually take up to a week to see the full and final results from their Xeomin injection treatment.
In the end, talk to one of our knowledgeable injectionists to get a better sense if Xeomin filler is the right choice for you. Our skilled providers will analyze your current facial characteristics and health history to determine the best course of treatment to reach your desired results.
